1. Local InterNACHI South Africa chapters shall be administered by The Board.
2. The Board consists of a the local chapter President, Secretary and Treasurer, who together comprise The Officers. All officers serve at the pleasure of the Executive Director for InterNACHI South Africa and must be InterNACHI South Africa members.
3. Unless the Executive Director is president, the chapter founding member shall serve as the first president. If the Executive Director is present, assuming a quorum of at least 5 members, the president shall be elected by popular vote. The Executive Director does not vote.
4. A founding Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected by a quorum of 5 chapter members. In the event that this minimum is not present at the founding meeting, the chapter president may appoint the Secretary and Treasurer. If no one is willing or able to serve, the president may fill these positions until such time as a member becomes available.
5. Only chapter members in good standing with both InterNACHI South Africa and with the chapter of which they are a member may vote in any chapter election.
6. After the founding meeting, officers shall not vote in successive elections.
7. All chapter officers including the president serve a term of 1 year.
8. All officers including the president may serve a maximum of 2 consecutive terms.
9. 2/3 of the board must be replaced by vote every third year. Outgoing officers are not eligible to run for any InterNACHI South Africa officer position for 1 year from the date of the start of the sabbatical.
10. The first general election is held a year from the date of the first meeting, and on the same date in successive years.
11. All local chapter members must be notified in writing, either by electronic communication or by postal service, of officer election place, date and time a minimum of 30 days in advance of such election. Failure to notify the local membership will render election results null and void, with another election to be held within 30 days of any such failed election. Failure to hold this second election will result in the dismissal of the chapter officers and new officers will be appointed by the Director of affairs for InterNACHI South Africa, or an election may be held upon his directive.
12. After the founding meeting, valid elections require the presence and participation of a minimum of 5 members in good standing for the results to be valid.
13. Formal meetings between officers shall not be held in secret.
14. All members shall be notified by e-mail of upcoming meetings at least 7 days before any such meeting is held.
15. Election of officers shall be by secret ballot
Grievance Process:
Local chapters should be run fairly, with as much transparency as possible and with the good of the chapter members foremost in mind. Chapter members with grievances should submit them to the chapter officers in writing, either by electronic communication or by postal service. Within 60 days of receipt of the member grievance, after a forthright investigation into the grievance, the officers should respond in writing, using the same delivery method as that in which the grievance was submitted. If this is not deemed practical or possible by the chapter president, the president may extend the original 60-day period for an additional 30 days. The intent is to respond to grievances promptly and fairly.
If the result of a grievance filed with a chapter is not deemed satisfactory to a member, that member may appeal in writing to the Director of Affairs, who will provide a written response within 60 days of receipt of the appeal.
Disciplinary Action:
Members found to have acted in bad faith, or to have violated the InterNACHI South Africa Standards of Practice or Code of Ethics are subject to a warning, or to expulsion from InterNACHI South Africa, with forfeiture of membership dues.
Warnings will not be issued more than once for each type of violation. The minimum expulsion time period is one year, the maximum is permanent expulsion. The warning or minimum expulsion might be issued for an infraction resulting from a misunderstanding, but which violates the Standards of Practice or Code of Ethics. Permanent expulsion would be for a member who willfully Standards of Practice or violates the Code of ethics. The severity of the disciplinary action against a member will be decided by the Officers. The Executive Director will execute the disciplinary action upon the recommendation of the Officers. The executive Director will then notify the member of any action taken.
